Main Line Fertility & Reproductive Medicine has recently introduced anonymous egg donation to its already extensive list of services. The need for this program evolved with the realization that many deserving mothers remain childless as a result of poor egg quality.
Egg quality can be affected in many ways. Age is the most significant factor associated with egg quality. As a woman ages, egg quality diminishes. This results in difficulty conceiving as well as an increased rate of miscarriage. Prior to egg donation, an otherwise healthy woman with poor egg quality was left only with adoption as a means to enter motherhood.
Egg donation first started out simply through women wanting to help other women. Sisters donated eggs to sisters all for the love of family. This then extend to friends helping each other create families. Unfortunately, many women do not have sisters or friends that can readily donate eggs. Often, social issues make it difficult to ask friends or relatives for such a sacrifice.
This is where the anonymous egg donors come to the rescue. They are "unknown" friends willing to share their eggs in an effort to make another woman a mother. Anonymous donors are clean living, intelligent and healthy. Many are mothers themselves and appreciate the gift they can offer. Others are simply good people giving back in their own way. Donors are truly special individuals as they give couples the opportunity to become parents.
Non-smoking women between the ages of 21 and 33 are candidates for egg donation. A medical team consisting of physicians, psychologists, and nurses screen potential donors very carefully. Potential donors undergo screening through medical and genetic history taking, psychological testing, blood testing and have a physical exam. All donors are screened for infectious diseases, sexually transmitted diseases, and common genetic disorders seen in certain ethnic populations. All donor information remains confidential.
If donors pass the screening process they are matched with an "unknown" recipient. The process to grow and collect the eggs takes about 12 days. A few brief office visits are required during this time frame. Once the eggs are retrieved, the donor is compensated for her time.
Although we realize that your "gift" is invaluable, Main Line Fertility acknowledges your commitment and time through a compensation package totaling $5000. Additionally, all screening tests and physical exams are complimentary to the donor.
